A widow is a woman who has lost her spouse or partner by death. Most widows have not yet remarried. Widows are a particularly vulnerable portion of the population, and they are frequently mistreated.
Widows in impoverished nations face more discrimination than widows in developed countries. Discrimination includes everything from infringements on inheritance rights to damaging practices like widow cleaning and forced marriage. That is why as a non-profit organization in California, we aim to help improve the quality of lives of widows and prevent violence against them.

- Say sorry for their loss. Simply telling them that you are sorry for their loss is more than enough. Do not ever tell them that you understand what they are feeling.
- You can call or ask them specific things. Do not ask them generally like, “Call me if you need anything.”
- Give tribute or refer to their husband’s words. They may feel comforted knowing that their husband has not been forgotten.
